PROACTIVE PERSONAL TAX PLANNING ADVICE AND STRATEGIES
With the UK’s tax regime becoming increasingly complex and greater emphasis being placed on the responsibility of individual taxpayers to accurately account for their liabilities, having professional tax planning advice has never been more important to negotiate the regulatory minefield.
At SRG, our highly-experienced advisers offer qualified guidance and support to individuals looking to optimise their tax position, whilst meeting all their necessary compliance requirements.
As part of our personal tax planning and advisory service, your nominated SRG adviser can undertake the following action:
- Planning the acquisition or disposal of assets
Whether you are planning to buy or sell an asset such as a property or business, your SRG adviser can work with you to plan ahead and mitigate capital gains tax liabilities as much as possible. To achieve the best advice, your SRG adviser will work hard to understand your personal and financial circumstances and the changes that may be ongoing.
- Income tax reviews
This is particularly pertinent for higher-rate taxpayers and individuals with multiple income streams. Your SRG adviser can investigate ways of saving you money in income tax.
- HMRC compliance
With the advent of Making Tax Digital on the horizon, it is vital that all tax laws and regulations are complied with and that the correct amount of tax is calculated and reported to HMRC. At SRG, we utilise the most advanced tax reporting software to ensure data is presented accurately and clearly to HMRC. Your nominated SRG adviser will also liaise with you on HMRC’s strict timetables for paying outstanding tax liabilities to avoid unnecessary late payment and late filing penalties.
- Non-domiciliary tax issues
For clients that are not domiciled in the UK, our SRG advisers can explore the tax benefits available to you. Our experienced advisers are well-versed in investigating our clients’ eligibility for non-domiciliary tax benefits.
- Non-residence and offshore issues
Your nominated SRG adviser can discuss the benefits of mitigating income tax and capital gains tax liabilities with non-resident status. We also work with foreign national clients living in the UK looking to use their status to minimise their tax liabilities.
A recent example of SRG’s personal tax planning services
SRG were recently instructed to review the inheritance tax planning of a family. This was driven by a recovery in the value of the family’s assets and changing circumstances within the family.
The family had, in the past, received advice from another financial adviser. Though this had been technically sound, it had been based on discussions and a review of correspondence.
Prior to giving any advice to the family, an SRG partner visited the family at their business premises and was able to conduct an informal physical survey of these assets.
This approach enabled SRG to identify additional tax planning solutions that would not have been apparent from the “desk-bound” approach of their previous adviser.
